It’s easy to put off reading a book. Unless it captures your heart (and you have the free time), chances are that you will not plow through in one or two readings. But if you knew approximately how long it would take to read a book, would you be more likely to finish it?
Personal Creations helps you manage your book reading time better with a nifty infographic. The website came up with a very simple formula: divide a book’s word count by 300, the number of words that an average person can read in a minute. Divide that number by 60 (the number of minutes in an hour) and you have a rough estimate of the number of hours that it would take to read any given book.
The Great Gatsby clocks in at just over forty-seven thousand words, which is slightly more than 2.5 hours’ worth of reading for the average reader. Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World would take 3.5 hours of reading, while To Kill A Mockingbird would take 5.5 hours. The longest book (series) that they included? Game of Thrones, and the series is not even finished yet!
