South Bend Police Hosting Trick-or-Treat Event Wednesday Night

Halloween on Harrison Court

Trick-or-treaters will have an extra chance to collect candy this week as the South Bend Police Department along with the Fire Department and St. Joseph County Police team up to host a Treat Night.

The event is being held at the South Bend Police Department Garage at 701 W. Sample Street on Wednesday, October 29 from 5:00-7:30 pm.

Children should dress up in their Halloween costume and will receive trick-or-treat candy. They will also have an opportunity to learn Halloween safety information, as well as participate in a smoke house demonstration to learn fire safety tips.

Goodwill Industries of Michiana, in partnership with Beacon Health System, will also be on hand to pass out free flashlights as part of their “Light the Night” program.

“Flashlights to light paths and alert cars to trick-or-treaters makes children more visible to drivers,” says Captain Phil Trent. “Nationwide, twice as many children are killed in vehicle accidents on Halloween than on any other day of the year. We want to help people take precautions that reduce the risk.”

Halloween is on Friday, October 31. Trick-or-treating hours in South Bend are from 5 until 7 pm. Parents are encouraged to be with their children. South Bend Police also advise motorists to be alert and obey all traffic laws to ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween.
