High Winds Knock Out Power to Thousands in Michiana

Indiana Michigan Power, the main electricity provider for hundreds of thousands in Michiana, is reporting a number of power outages Monday night as high winds bear down on the region.

Nearly 3,000 customers have lost power in Indiana and Michigan so far. Over one third of the outages have come from St. Joseph County. Allen County (Fort Wayne) has 794 outages reported, Elkhart County has 195, and LaPorte County has 105 outages.

Berrien County in Michigan has seen over 600 customers lose their power.

I&M serves a half million customers in Indiana and Michigan. It is the regional subsidiary of American Electric Power, which provides electricity to parts of eleven different states in the Midwest and South.
