NICTD Seeks Public Comment for Proposed South Shore Fare Increase

South-Shore-Train

A public meeting is set for a proposed fare increase on the South Shore. The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) will host five separate meetings, two of which will be in the South Bend metro area.

The proposed fare increase will affect pre-purchase fares with the increase ranging from 10 to 15 percent. Tickets purchased on board of trains will see an additional increase of $2 at stations where ticket agents or vending machines are available.

Under the proposed changes, the total fare for riders traveling from South Bend to Millennium Station in downtown Chicago will be $13. That’s up from the current $11.75 fare, a nearly 11 percent increase.

The public can offer their comments either in person at the public meetings, by mail or through their website.

Letters should be addressed to NICTD and mailed to 33 East US Highway 12, Chesterton, IN 46304.

The South Bend public meeting will be held on Monday, April 27 at 7:30 pm in the Studebaker Room at South Bend International Airport. There will also be a public meeting in Michigan City on Monday, May 4 at 7 pm in the lower level of Michigan City Hall, 100 East Michigan Blvd.

The new fares will take effect on July 1, 2015 if approved.
