Are you looking to do something this weekend? Perhaps consider doing some community service.

Volunteers are needed as part of the “Serve South Bend” contest, which rewards residents for their service to the community.

There will be upwards of twenty separate community service projects taking place across the city on Saturday, April 11. The projects vary from mulching and dirt lifting at Unity Gardens to cleaning up local parks.

One lucky participant will be awarded a $1,000 prize. TCU is sponsoring the event.

The day will start on Saturday at 8:30 am with a Community Day of Service breakfast at the Notre Dame Irish Green located at the corner of Eddy Street and Angela Boulevard. The first 150 people will receive a free t-shirt.

The projects will last for approximately four hours beginning at 10 am. You can find a full list of projects and pre-register at http://backthebend.nd.edu/. However, registration is not required.

The day concludes with a picnic and the cash prize being awarded to one of the volunteers.
