Representative Jackie Walorski Wins Re-Election in 2nd District

Rep-Jackie-Walorski

Representative Jackie Walorski has won re-election to a second term.

The freshman Republican incumbent was favored over Democrat Joe Bock throughout the campaign.

She has taken a 58-40 lead with 76 percent of precincts reporting. All of the vote in the district’s largest Democratic county — St. Joseph County — have been counted.

Walorski first ran for the seat formerly held by Democrat Joe Donnelly in 2010. Donnelly won that race 48-47 in an election cycle where Democrats lost 63 seats and Republicans gained majority control of the House.

Donnelly decided to run for the Senate in 2012 — which he won against Richard Mourdock — instead of mounting a re-election campaign in the redrawn 2nd District. The Republican-controlled legislature redrew the map to favor a Republican

Walorski was successful in her second race in 2012 over Democrat Brendan Mullen. Her win Tuesday night will make it more difficult for Democrats to flip the district as she becomes more established among voters.
