Indiana Drivers May Be Eligible for BMV Overcharge Refund

Drivers in the state of Indiana may qualify for a refund from the state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

The agency announced in October that some Indiana drivers would be eligible for a refund due to an error in calculating excise taxes.

Nearly a quarter million car owners have been overcharged since 2004. The $29 million worth of refunds will be issued with interest to eligible drivers.

The state has set up a web page to help you find out if you are owed a refund. Visit http://in.gov/bmv. Click on the green button that says “Check your excise tax refund eligibility.”

You will either need your driver’s license or Social Security number to run the search.
