Volunteers Still Needed for South Bend 150 Celebration

sb-150

South Bend will see its biggest celebration in years later this month as revelers pack downtown by the tens of thousands to mark the city’s sesquicentennial during Memorial Day weekend on May 23 and 24.

The logistics of such a large gathering — packed with events from an outdoor concert to a basketball tournament and food festival, among other activities — requires over a thousand volunteers.

Volunteers must register for at least a three hour shift. Everyone who volunteers will receive a free SB150 volunteer t-shirt. Volunteers are also eligible to win a cash prize and complimentary tickets for the Zip Line, Go Karts, Hot Air Balloon ride, Helicopter ride, and Ben Folds concert.

The city is encouraging large groups, such as civic organizations, non-profits, school and church based-groups to register as a team with one point of contact.

All volunteers must be at least 14 years or older and must attend a mandatory orientation session. We have the times and locations of the orientation sessions below:

  • Friday, May 15, noon – 1:00 p.m., Century Center, Bendix Theatre
  • Saturday, May 16, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Main Branch of St. Joseph County Public Library, Humphreys Room
  • Monday, May 18, noon – 1:00 p.m., Century Center, Bendix Theatre
  • Monday, May 18, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Century Center, Bendix Theatre

Today is the last day for volunteers to register on the SB 150 website. Visit http://sb150.com/volunteer for more details.
