Council President Oliver Davis has announced that he is seeking a third term.

“Councilman Oliver Davis, the man with the bow-tie, continues to ask for your vote, support, and prayers, as he works with you to tie together our families and businesses of the 6th District of South Bend so that our neighborhoods can be safer, stronger, and secure,” he says in his news release.

The Councilman says that he “fought to have dry basements for families who live in our Calvert Street area”, promoted job growth at Ignition Park, voted to redevelop Western Avenue, supported neighborhood bars and businesses, promoted a new fire station on Prairie Avenue, and “encouraged the restoration of our City of South Bend Cemetery.”

One challenger has already announced her intentions. Sheila Niezgodski is running for the 6th District seat currently held by Councilman Oliver Davis. Sheila Niezgodski is a US Army veteran, business manager and wife of Indiana state representative David Niezgodski. More challengers may yet announce their own campaigns in the coming months.

The 6th District extends through most of the southwest side of South Bend.

South Bend Voice will continue to cover this and other local races in the run up to the May 5 primary.
