Mayor Buttigieg Reports Being Back on US Soil

South Bend Mayor Peter Buttigieg

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is officially back on US soil, according to a post on the mayor’s Facebook page.

“Feels good to be on American soil… and one step closer to home,” Buttigieg wrote on his Facebook wall Tuesday afternoon.

The post was made yesterday at 3:27 pm in Norfolk, Virginia. Buttigieg made a stop at Naval Station Norfolk, the largest naval base in the world.

Buttigieg is returning to the US after a seven month tour of duty in the US Navy Reserves. The mayor’s office confirmed last week that Buttigieg was “beginning the demobilization process.” A city spokesperson says that he will return to office early next month.

Deputy Mayor Mark Neal has taken over executive duties since February. Neal was elected as the City Controller where he oversaw the city’s fiscal management. Neal will resume his duties as City Controller once Buttigieg resumes his duties.
