A local hospital is joining South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg in hosting an open enrollment event for residents seeking information on health insurance options.
The second round of open enrollment under the Affordable Care Act begins on November 15 and runs through mid-February.
“Insurance coverage creates healthier communities by helping residents obtain preventative and screening services, prescription drug services, and improves continuity of care,” Buttigieg says.
“We want to let those without insurance know that plans are available.”
The event provides residents with an opportunity to learn about insurance plans and receive assistance with the healthcare.gov online insurance marketplace. Trained “navigators” will be on hand to provide information on private health insurance options and public programs such as Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
“Beacon Health System has dozens of navigators available throughout our community to explain options, answer questions, and help people apply for the plan they choose,” says Diane Maas, the VP of Managed Care and Business Development at Beacon Health System, which owns Memorial Hospital.
The event takes place at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 12 in the main lobby of Memorial Hospital located at 615 N. Michigan Street in downtown South Bend.
