Parents and high school students are invited to a college readiness workshop this Saturday on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
The event, “Guiding Your Way to Higher Education,” will be held at the Notre Dame Center for Arts and Culture at 1045 W. Washington Street in South Bend on Saturday, May 9 from 9:30 am until 1:30 pm.
The workshop will cover topics ranging from how to apply to college and graduation requirements to funding options.
“It is very important for any parent but especially to those that have not experienced or are not aware of the college acceptance process to gain the necessary skills and information to give their children the best opportunities to be successful in life,” says Humberto Delgado, La Casa de Amistad’s youth program coordinator.
The event is a partnership of La Casa de Amistad and Goshen College.
“Workshops like these are invaluable for our communities and our families. They help broaden parents’ and children’s understanding of the opportunities available to them,” Delgado adds. “There are no shortcuts, especially on the parents’ part.”
Delgado will be among four different presenters, including Luis Zapata of 1st Source Bank, Savino Rivera of the South Bend School Corporation and Cynthia Murphy of Indiana University South Bend.
The event is free and open to the public. Student participants will be entered into a contest to win a free laptop.
