The city of South Bend launched a new utility billing website today.
The portal – which customers can access at utilities.southbendin.gov – provides new features for the city’s utility services. Among the new features is the ability to start and stop service, make payments, and view water usage. Customers also have the option to be notified via text when their bill is ready to view.
According to a news release from the city:
For customers with a current bill due after the launch date, automatic payments via credit or debit card will not be processed. Automatic payments from a checking or savings account will be withdrawn as scheduled. Customers who currently autopay via credit or debit card will have to re-enroll after receiving the first billing statement from the new system. All customers will also get a new account number after January 19, which will be needed when setting up a new online account.
The website for the outgoing portal will no longer be available starting 5 p.m. Friday, January 15. The interactive voice response system will also be down during the same period.
The new system is the first in more than 20 years. Customers should call 311 for any questions or email SBMUcustomerservice@southbendin.gov.
