Chicago Little Leaguers Post Higher TV Ratings than Sox and Cubs

Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West Little League team is on a roll. Jackie Robinson West defeated Pacific Little League region champs of Lynnwood, Washington in a 12-2 rout after winning the Illinois state championship and clinching the Great Lakes regional title. Their ten run lead forced the mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Equally as impressive as the blowout victory was the fact that Jackie Robinson West’s win over Pacific on ESPN had a higher television rating than Chicago’s two professional baseball teams’ averages for the year in the Chicago market. According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs have averaged a rating of 1.5 on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, while the White Sox have managed a 1.4 rating. Jackie Robinson West’s win on Thursday had a 2.4 rating on ESPN in Chicago, reaching more than 70,000 homes in the area.

Chicago’s Little League team goes on in the Little League World Series to face the West region champion on Sunday at 2 pm.
