Notre Dame Drops to 7th After Disputed FSU Loss

University-of-Notre-Dame

Notre Dame fell in two national college football polls after a disputed loss on the road to second place Florida State. The latest AP poll has the Irish dropping to seventh in the country, while the USA Today Coaches’ poll has them at eighth.

Facing a fourth down and with time running out, Coach Brian Kelly called for passing play in red zone during the final seconds of last night’s game. Golson went to his right, looking for an open receiver. Robinson scored a touchdown — and the Irish began to celebrate their victory — before the ACC officiating crew threw a flag, taking back the game-winning touchdown in a controversial offensive pass interference call.

“Actually I have less clarity,” Coach Brian Kelly said on Sunday during a teleconference. “I guess it was actually called on Will Fuller, not C.J. (Prosise). So [it] just adds more uncertainty as to the final play.”

“But again, the play itself, in terms of what we ask our kids to do, it was pretty clear what happened on the play: Florida State blew the coverage and they got rewarded for it. It’s unfortunate,” Kelly added.

Meanwhile, one loss teams Alabama, Auburn and Oregon all jumped Notre Dame. Oregon lost to an unranked Arizona team. Auburn’s last game was a 38-23 loss to #1 Mississippi State. Alabama’s sole loss was to #3 Ole Miss; the Crimson Tide put on quite a show Saturday in an extremely impressive 59-0 rout over #21 Texas A&M.
