South Bend opens home repair grants applications

Spring is getting closer, which means that home repairs are right around the corner. The city of South Bend is now accepting grant applications as part of its Pilot Home Repair Program.

The grants of up to $20,000 are for the benefit of South Bend homeowners to make repairs to their homes. In order to be eligible for the grant, the properties must be single-family residential.

According to the city, there are several different types of home repairs that are eligible as part of the pilot program. The grants can cover things like roof replacements, electrical repairs, and HVAC replacements.

“This year the pilot program is targeted towards areas on the west side of South Bend, spanning an area between Western and Portage Avenues,” the city says.

To see if your home qualifies and for more details on how to begin the application process, call 311. Be sure to ask about the South Bend Pilot Home Repair Program. Applications are accepted through March 31, 2020.
