Restorative justice expert Dalila Huerta to speak at Lunch with the League

The League of Women Voters of the South Bend Area is welcoming Dalila Huerta, an educator and restorative justice consultant living in South Bend, for its monthly Lunch with the League. The free event takes place virtually on August 13, 2021 at noon.

This virtual talk invites us to explore the foundational tenets of restorative justice and abolitionist work. The event will highlight stories of restorative justice in action here in South Bend. As a way to build relational accountability, restorative justice can provide a path that centers dignity, shared power, and mutual concern for the transformation of harm.

As a cultural educator, Huerta has worked in museums, community centers, and public schools where she has focused on the intersections of art, history, and racial justice. Restorative justice ties together her love of storytelling and relationship building, and guides her practice of co-creating a future where everyone can thrive.

Dalila completed her undergraduate work in History and Peace & Justice Studies and her graduate work in American Material Culture and Museum Studies. She works with several organizations through her consulting business, Cempasuchil Cultural Equity Work, and leads restorative justice training in South Bend and the surrounding areas. She also serves as Vice President for Community Action for Education and Chair of the Building Resiliency Committee for St. Joseph County Cares.
